The Byrne Gallery is proud to announce Consider It Cosmic, the new gallery exhibition for October 2025. Consider It Cosmic showcases the abstract paintings of Joe LaMattina and Anne Marchand, as well as the unique metal sculptures of J-P Müller. These works illustrate the powerful impact of form and color on emotion and intellect, seeking to evoke a moment of personal spiritual reflection. This exhibit invites the viewer to consider the unseen causes of everyday reality and appreciation of the present moment.
“To consider something cosmic is to look beyond the visible — to sense the quiet thread that connects us to something larger. The paintings and sculptures are rooted in gesture, yet tuned to a wider frequency: an atmosphere, an emotional charge, a feeling of shared resonance. The show invites reflection on vastness — not as something distant, but as something already within us.”
The exhibition will be on display from October 1st through November 2nd and is open to the public. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.
A reception will be held on Saturday, October 4th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and there will be an artists’ talk on Sunday, October 26th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
About the Artists
Joe LaMattina
Joe loves to experiment and play in developing the “sense of lightness and fluidity” in his colorful abstract works. Much of his current work is mixed media, with paint, collage, and unusual non-traditional materials. He views art as a journey and, regardless of subject matter, he loves to “present works with open-ended narratives,” and leave the effect and feeling to the viewer as the active primary participant.
Anne Marchand
Anne is a Washington, D.C.-based painter whose large-scale abstract works explore themes of presence, memory, and connection. Her process blends gesture, layered materials, and nuanced color to create immersive, emotionally resonant compositions. She has exhibited in solo and group shows across the region and was recently featured in The Washington Post in a review by art critic Mark Jenkins. Her current work investigates shared experience and unseen connection through a visual language that is both expansive and intimate.
J-P Müller
“As an artist, I aim to create a spiritual connection with participants. I use the word "participants,” specifically because viewing is participating in these dimensions of work. I refer to my work as Static Dynamism, as the pieces are static, but engagement by participants animates them and gives them life.” J-P highlights the duality of quantum physics and the interplay between the observer and his pieces evolving. J-P’s inspiration comes from the quantum mechanics theory the double-slit experiment and shows that particles like light can act as both waves and particles. When unobserved, they create an interference pattern, but when observed, they behave like particles, illustrating the impact of observation in quantum mechanics.
J-P is an artist/engineer/fabricator with over 40 years of experience in artistic industrial design, construction, and custom fabrication. His education in Master Toolmaking was from the school Berner Fachhschule für Technik, located in Switzerland. J-P is an expert in creative design solutions for large-scale public realm installations. He is also a master of custom fabrications that complement and enhance the built environment while engaging the human spirit with beauty and aesthetic excellence. J-P Müller, founder of OEC Engineering Corporation, draws from decades of structural and architectural design and fabrication.
